Sylvia Plath
As the SLWA show was being conceived I was
reading Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar. The text consumed
me with her description of a young woman trying
to find herself amongst the dictates of others.
I felt entwined in her sadness and her madness.
Her poetry and prose touches many familiar chords
with me, as a mother, as an artist and as a lover,
- making me realise the importance of having access
to such intimate works. Her shared emotions
and reflections create powerful writing that continues
to resonate.
