‘Caroline’
A recent newspaper story refers to the invisibility
of women within our patriarchal political system:
One female Conservative MP tells how, in the weeks
after the influx of new female Tories into the House
of Commons at the last election, some of her male
colleagues struggled to tell them apart. They resorted
to calling any or all of the new women ‘Caroline’
(Juliette Jowit, political correspondent, The Guardian,
Thursday 14 February 2013). My dinner guest
‘Caroline’ represents invisible women of all ages
and circumstances wherever they may be.
