invited by Melissa Budasz Boudicca Boudicca (c. AD 25-61) led amongst men in a time when women were believed to be more equal. Opposing the Roman rule that took her land after the death of her husband, the Iceni tribe were treated like slaves; Boudicca was publicly flogged and her daughters were raped. The qualities that I pay homage to are not just the determination, courage and intelligence in Boudicca’s revolt leading an army of men, but as a mother trying to protect her daughters and resolutely defying any lesser fate. Her life and story still resonates today because of this. She is my heroine. South London Women Artists I’m Inside, Ring The Bell 13
