New era for Thomasville Bulldogs

THOMASVILLE — It is transition time for the Thomasville Bulldogs .
No longer are the Bulldogs in Class AA . They will move up to Class AAA next season and are aligned in the same region as Dougherty , Monroe , Crisp County , Carver-Columbus and Columbus .
Also , the Bulldogs have a new coach for the first time since 2016 . Jonathan DeLay discussed how the summer has gone this year in preparation for his first season as head coach .

“ The kids are doing a great job . Having the relationships with them going into this year has been huge ,” said DeLay , who has transitioned from offensive coordinator to head coach .
“ It ’ s made the transition easier . I ’ ve been able to get to know on a more personal level more kids than I did . Just being able to go over there and interact with a defensive kid or kids at other positions , that ’ s been nice to be freed up to go to other activities .
“ We just got back from an OTA . When I was an offensive coach , I ’ d coach the quarterbacks , and when the offense came off the field , I ’ d spend time while the defense was on the field , coaching the quarterbacks . Now , I can come off the field and keep my eyes on the defense .”
DeLay will be eyeing an experienced team when the Bulldogs take the field for the first time on Aug . 19 at Brooks County . The Bulldogs return eight starters on offense and six on defense . The team ’ s top returners
