“ We really just want to focus on taking it one game at a time , one week at a time , one game at a time and just go from there . That ’ s really how we try to look at things . That ’ s the mindset we really want to try to build on our team .”

Region 1-4A

The duo are two of the five offensive starters returning this year . Cairo also return six defensive starters . Keep an eye on senior Jalen Davis and junior Jeremiah Williams at linebacker .

“ Jalen ’ s a kid that played a lot for us the last couple of years . He ’ s back for his senior season , so we ’ re looking for big things for him . Jeremiah played last year as a sophomore in a role . This year we ’ re looking for him to step up ,” Coleman said .

Coleman is also high on a pair of defensive backs , junior Javeon Jones and senior Fabian Yarbrough .

“ Fabian was a good player for us last year . Javeon is another one that we ’ re looking to step up this year . He ’ s like Jeremiah , he ’ ll be a junior this year , and we ’ re looking to see if he can step up and do good things for us ,” Coleman said .

Cairo ’ s first game this year is slated for Aug . 19 at Thomas County Central . It ’ ll be a special feeling for Coleman as he takes the field for the first time as head coach of his alma mater .

“ There ’ s nothing like being a Syrupmaker on a Friday night . That pretty much sums it up ,” Coleman said .

Cairo ’ s region foes this year include Bainbridge , Hardaway , Shaw and Westover . n
