Senior quarterback Sam Brown will man the newlook offense that will feature more run-pass options . He ’ ll have talent at the skilled positions , led by senior Adam Hopkins . One of the top recruits in South Georgia provides the Yellow Jackets with speed and quickness , though he was limited during the summer after suffering a slight shoulder separation during a trip to the Troy camp . Rogers said he won ’ t be back practicing until Aug . 1 , the first full week of full pads .
“ We know he can play . He was having a great spring and had a great day over at Troy as well . We expect big things out of Adam ,” Rogers said .
Senior Ricky Fulton provides experience at running back . The transfer from Thomasville had breakout games last season of 147 rushing yards against Berrien , 106 yards against Early County , 104 yards against Bainbridge and 109 yards against Rabun County .
On defense , eyes will be on senior Javion Revels along the defensive line and senior Dezmond Jones at inside linebacker .
“ He ’ s just the heart and soul of this team ,” Rogers said of Jones . “ He ’ s just such a dynamic leader ,” Rogers said .
Central opens the season on Aug . 19 against Cairo . Its first region game is Sept . 30 at home against Veterans . The Yellow Jackets have almost two months to build the depth necessary to compete for a region title .
“ I think the biggest thing is just depth . I think we feel good about where we ’ re at . It ’ s just ‘ do we have that extra guy when something happens at the positions ?’” Rogers noted . n
