Shoplifters
aka Manbiki kazoku
Wednesday 27 March
Osamu and his wife Nobuyo are a Japanese
couple stuck with menial part-time jobs and
inadequate income. They make ends meet
through the fruits of shoplifting. And they are
not alone in this behaviour. The younger and
the older children of the household are also in
on the act. But their unusual routine is about to
change from care-free to something more
dramatic, when the couple open their doors to
a beleaguered teenager, putting them and their
activities under a microscope.

Princesses Can
Be Pirates
Thursday 28 March
This production for children 4+ years their
teachers and families is a highly energetic, fun
and enjoyable dance performance that seeks to
playfully question and explore what is
considered “typical” or “normal” behaviour for
girls and for boys. Play is everything and
everywhere, so brave or foolhardy, the two
extraordinary performers join forces as they
journey into unknown territory. In a series of
lively scrapes and escapades, they swap toys
and activities, in their question to defy
stereotypes and break the norm. The world has
much to offer and this duet celebrates it in a
dynamic and humorous performance. Great for
the young and old alike
Princesses can be Pirates is supported by a
touring award from the Arts Council.
