The Monticello Railway Museum does much more than display locomotives and train cars ; they operate the trains as part of an educational and preservation effort . Over the Christmas holidays , they run a Polar Express train and also have rides on weekends from late April through the first weekend in October . Frye is there much of the time to help operate the rides for the public .
Frye has a particular interest in steam locomotives . The Museum has four , one of which is operational , along with a fleet of six operable diesel locomotives . Besides displaying and operating the locomotives and rail cars , Frye actively helps in the restoration of acquired or donated equipment . He has personally participated in restoring 12 locomotives , freight cars , or cabooses .
On yet another scale of interest and exposures to train , Rob Huddleston with Gateway FS has worked for Conrail / Pennsylvania Truck Lines and Union Pacific Rail Terminal Services , loading semis piggyback on flat cars and double stacking containers . Huddleston says that while rail is more cost-effective , rail has its time restraints and is better used for less time-sensitive materials .
