Case Study To explore these concepts , I am focusing on a TikTok user , @ scorpiosierra , named Sierra . TikTok is a video sharing platform that has undergone exponential growth over recent years . Beginning in 2016 , it has now attained over 1 billion users ( Doyle , 2021 ). The app ’ s versatility is arguably the root of its successful , with an abundance of editorial tools and a vast catalogue of songs , it produces an almost endless stream of content . TikTok is radical in its convergence of digital societies ; the app fostered a range of creative users that utilise the app for a multitude of purposes . Demanding little skill or knowledge , the app offers a range of digital effects and sounds functions to create intricate videos in an intuitive format . These functions demonstrate how TikTok affords the compression of professional skills , such as editing and special effects , into a format that ‘ reproduces the elaborate post-production of professional cinema ’ ( Bresnick , 2019 , p . 1 ). It is overt that despite providing tools that

allow amateurs to create products with a parallelism to professionals , this does not determine them as equal . This argument is partially correct . A TikTok video is not comparable in calibre to a Hollywood blockbuster ; however , this is not the aim . What technology has done , and continues to do , is provide amateurs with the means to create products of immense similarity in skill and technique to professionals . This specific process deconstructs the classifications surrounding amateurs and professionals ’ work , causing a blurring of the once distinct concepts .
Contributing to this process is Sierra , who creates ‘ lil stories for your brain ’ (@ Scorpiosierra , 2021 , [ TikTok ,]) that have amassed her over 700k followers and 13 million likes . Based in New York , her content takes arbitrary aspects of everyday life like revision , moving to a new apartment or merely her brushing teeth and converts them into highly stylised videos . Productions are non-sensical and dreamlike and employ a range of conventional and experimental techniques . Her content is fragmented
