Destruction in Adrienne Rich ’ s Diving into the Wreck and Mona Arshi ’ s Dear Big Gods

ALICE BURNS comments on the relationship between the element of ‘ destruction ’ and the poems of Adrienne Rich and Mona Arshi in her piece for the ENGL347 Women Writers module . Drawing upon two poems , Alice discusses how ‘ destruction ’ helps to narrativize the female voice and explores the ways in which this is carried out .
Burns is particularly interested in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth-century literature and she especially enjoyed the Victorian and Romantic Literature modules in her course . She says the way we interact with
9 language is ever-changing and relished in analysing the works of Rich and Arshi and how both poets interacted with the contemporary .
DESTRUCTION is a vital component in both Adrienne Rich ’ s Diving into the Wreck and Mona Arshi ’ s Dear Big Gods , used to explore the development and growth of the female self and narrative . Mythology is an interesting aspect of this , as both poets identify its ability to both construct and deconstruct certain narratives about women . Like
