Why We Need More

Long-Term Male Contraceptive Methods

Josie Calvert

Josie Calvert
JOSIE CALVERT , a second-year English student on the ENGL274 module , comments on the debate of male contraception . In her well-reasoned and organised piece , she discusses the benefits of introducing more contraceptive options for men . Focusing on the pill , she suggests this will release the long-overdue burden on women to be responsible for their contraception .
Regarding how she wishes to spend her time at Liverpool in her final year , Calvert suggests she will aim to refine her creative work whilst still injecting her personality into her pieces . She says she will use the year to become the most interesting version of herself to present to employers in her future career .
SINCE the very first creation of birth control , the burden has been placed on women ’ s bodies to facilitate hormone-filled and painful methods of contraception since the 1960s . The pill , just one form of birth control method , is taken by 200 million women in the world , and prescribed to 3.5 million women in the UK . The contraceptive pill has been universally known to cause many unpleasant side-effects , such as nausea , migraines , decreased libido and a decline in mental health .
