The Party

by Austin Husson

My name is Teresa Husson and I grew up in Bethlehem, New Hampshire. It was a brisk winter night, and there was a party that was going to be happening at my friends house. Snow was slowly falling and I could see it passing by the lamp posts. The sun was already down, but the moon was up providing light. I still had to ask my mother about the party, but I doubt she’d say yes. I wandered into the kitchen where she was making supper.

“Hey mom,” I said with a questioning tone in my voice.

“What do you want?” She answered sharply.

“Well there’s a party happening tonight at Heather’s house and I was wondering if I could go.”

“No,” she replied quickly.

“But why not?”

“It’s getting late and besides, I wouldn’t let you go to a party anyways.”

“But mom I’ll be back by midnight. Please let me go”

“No. End of story, you're not going.”

“Fine.”

I went up to my room and I stayed there until supper was made. I went downstairs and quickly ate it. I was upset with my mother and I didn’t want to talk with her. When I was in my room I decided to call Heather and tell her. Heather really wanted me to go, and I really wanted to go as well. We decided to make an escape plan for me.

Heather said that she’d pick me up around midnight, or when my mom and father were asleep. She came like she said, and we left for the party. It had stopped snowing by this time, so the ride wasn’t too bad. It took about 20 minutes to get to her house, and then we partied.

There were drinks all around me, and there were people I didn’t even know. Most of them were from my school though. We ended up losing track of time, and it was 5 in the morning. I knew that if I went home my mom would be awake and I would be grounded for an eternity. I decided not to go home.

I stayed at Heather’s house for days. My mother came to her house asking for me, but her parents said I wasn’t there. Cops ended up coming through the town checking for me, but they couldn’t find me. A few days have passed now, and I decided to go home. When I walked through the door I saw my father sitting on the couch. I asked him what I should do, because I know my mother would be furious.

“You should just be honest with her and take the punishment,” My father said to me. We both knew that I was going to be grounded for a while. He was always really understanding and helped me whenever I needed it.

“Alright I will,” I responded. I walked into the kitchen, which is where I found my mother.

“Where have you been?” my mother asked with a stern tone.

“I went to the party at Heather’s house.”

“And what about after that?”

“I stayed there because I didn’t want to come home.”

She was very upset and told me I’d be grounded for 6 months. I thought this was unfair, but I knew I’d be grounded even if I came home the day after the party. I learned that I should just be honest and to take punishments instead of waiting longer.
