A Coat for Anyone
Designer Christopher Bailey takes a page from Virginia Woolf’s Orlando and ignores the lines determined by gender, showing us men and women alike in natural-toned makeup, ruffled collars, bombers, over-sized sweatshirts, and long trench coats. Burberry’s co-ed line is an inspiration to androgynous dressers. This season, look for these types of jackets—inspired by Burberry’s Fall/Winter 2016 Ready-to-Wear collection—for your closet.
As we learned from earlier in fashion week, bombers and flight jackets with shearling lining are in. Shearling is sheep wool, but most of the time you’ll find fake shearling that is made of synthetic materials. These jackets can be worn for any casual occasion, and they will keep you warm on your way to and from work. The great thing about bombers is they’re easy to layer over lighter jackets and they look good over anything. A corduroy trucker jacket with faux shearling lining is pictured here over a basic crew neck sweater, paired with jeans and Timberlands.
For a classier, more professional look, try a long trench coat. These look fantastic over suits and pant suits with a pair of loafers. Or for a more feminine style, wear pointed flats. Show up to a business meeting in this, and you’ll look sleek and ready to impress.
Burberry’s line this season affirmed that fashion doesn’t have to be gendered. Wear what you love and stay warm!
