Christmas Spectacular
Christmas is my favorite holiday because of the memories, décor, and traditions that have been instilled in me by my family and my town. Christmas for me is the embodiment of these important things. One of my favorite memories of Christmas time is that I remember being younger and my mom baking cookies. I would wake up, help her bake these cookies, and then eat my little weight in them. My family has a few traditions, one of which is getting a new pair of Christmas pajamas every year, regardless of how old we have grown, and we are expected to wear them for when we wake up Christmas morning after Santa has visited. A town tradition that I partake in is our annual Tree Lighting in the downtown park. Santa makes an appearance, and this year he even made it snow!
I mention décor being an important part why I love Christmastime and that is because every piece of my decorations have come from my mother. This includes my tree, which even predates my birth. This is the only tree I have ever known for Christmastime; you can imagine the excitement when she gave it to me 3 years ago. My ornaments have also come from her. I have added pieces every year, but the bulk of decorations were her’s and they are sentimental because I remember seeing them growing up. Having these ornaments is unique because they add a personal touch that is reflected in the color palette on my tree. My tree is full of purples, pinks, and silver. It is the embodiment of a little girl’s Christmas tree. I think anyone can have this unique look if they think outside of the traditional red, green, and gold color. It doesn’t have to be as unique as purples and pinks; you can opt for a newer trend of rose gold and purple, or rose gold and blue.
So now that we covered why Christmastime is the best, let me give you my steps to decorating my perfect tree!
Put tree together and fluff! You don’t want it to look boxed. You want to look fresh and real.
Lights on! Always test them first. I always leave them plugged in while hanging them
Place the biggest ornaments and bows first, then fill in with other varying sizes to close any gaps. Varying sizes is a MUST! Break the tradition of all the ornaments being the same size to add some uniqueness to your tree.
