Gentlemen's Threads
Layering and attention to detail. Those two can seem daunting for guys. When does layering become too bulky, when does it not slim but add to your frame? Attention to detail— pairing the right watch, mixing your leathers, what works and what doesn’t? Hopefully this next installment we can talk about some of that and get you gentlemen ready for winter with plenty of information to move forward.
Layering. First things first. Layering is perfect for the fall and winter months. Why? Well, for one it keeps you warm and it is practical, but it also allows you to showcase some fun quirks in your wardrobe. Do you have a fancy tie or crazy printed shirt? Layer them under a sweater and showcase them.
There’s often a misconception that fashion must be practical in these chilly months when we all mainly want that crock pot of chili. Instead of just being dressed for practicality, why not focus on fashionability as well? Why not layer a quarter zip sweater over your button up, then throw on a quilted vest over that. Add a scarf and jacket, and you are set to brave the cold! It may seem too simple, but it’s so easy. A t-shirt, or button down, a sweater or vest, your scarf and jacket, and you are out the door. Also, if you want to do something a little different, think about adding two vests. Zipper one and leave the other open.
Attention to detail. This is where we may break the rules a bit. I’m sure you have heard about matching your leathers, but why not pair a darker shoe with a lighter leather belt? Do you have a silver wedding band, but still own that gold watch from before the nuptials? What’s my advice? Wear them both! Rules were meant to be broken, as long as you break them well. It’s one thing to just walk out the door in the morning with a great outfit. Anyone can do that. But throw on the watch, or the cuff bracelet, throw on the scarf, and head out the door. This elevates your already effortlessly pieced together look to the next level. It adds that one final detail to set you apart from every other guy on campus or the office—maybe even scoring you that first date for cuffing season.
