The tea is steeped for 5-15 seconds and is then poured from the teapot into the pouring cup/pot through a strainer. This pouring cup (ideally a glass cup), enables everyone to admire the distinct color radiated by the tea. This tea is immediately poured among the smelling cups.

Once tea is in the smelling cup, the drinking cups are placed atop the smelling cup, making a tiny mushroom. The smelling cup and the

drinking cup are simultaneously turned upside down and the smelling cup is slowly removed from the drinking cup, leaving it full of tea. This smelling cup is then massaged up and down the fingers and palm of the hands, giving off a pleasant aroma to be enjoyed by the participant.

Once the smell has subsided, the individual can now partake of the brewed tea from the drinking cup. The tea ends up being the perfect temperature for drinking, bearing in it no astringency or bitterness to its taste. This perfect cup of tea results from steeping a lot of tea in a small amount of water for a short amount of time. The Chinese have perfected this art, and unlike the Chinese language, you too can perfect the art of Gong Fu in a relatively short period of time with some practice!

Flipping the two cups simultaneously.

Smell the cup before you drink.
