5. The second book in this series is SO MUCH BETTER! I thought this book was enjoyable but reading the sequel….just blown away.
3. The world of Prythian is complex but extremely interesting. It’s similar in ways to George R. R. Martin’s fictional world (Game of Thrones anyone?). Prythian is the land of the Fae. It is separated from the human world by a magical wall. It’s ruled by seven different courts: Summer, Spring, Winter, Autumn, Day, Dawn, and Night. The way Sarah has created these individual locations and given each of them something special and different makes it more interesting to read. Unlike GoT, it is NOT confusing at ALL! It is very easy to understand and follow along as she explains all the different types of courts.
4. It is easy to read. Yes, it’s quite long but the style of writing is compelling without being boring or too complicated. She instills such an interest in these characters and what will happen to them next that I personally had a really hard time putting down her book. I feel that way about all of the novels Sarah has written but this particular series has really just blown me away.
6. Disclaimer – there are some sex scenes and scenes where things are suggested. So I don’t recommend this for a younger audience (under 14). The book itself is more for high school age and up.
This novel in general was so interesting. With intriguing characters, complex developments, exciting characters, and overall a story that I was excited to read more about. I’ve read a few books that try to remake and retell old fairy tales and this book is by far my favorite. What’s great about this particular series is that Sarah J. Maas plans to continue that theme throughout all the books. The second book in the series is also based on an old fairy tale legend, Hades and Persephone. Overall, I enjoyed this novel.
