Business Drab to FAB
When did business-wear become a uniform? I've heard so many college girls say that they are dreading "work attire". I don't blame them! It seems that no matter what, offices everywhere can't break away from a basic trouser/pencil skirt, button up and blazer. Of course, these pieces are classic. You can never go wrong with a power suit...until you get bored of the monotony. Individualism should show in every facet of your life, including business wear. There are so many ways to transform your business wardrobe into a unique closet full of things that you WANT to wear. Designers like Claude Girboux, Cotelac, Ivan Grundahl, and Margoux Lonnberg design striking pieces that you can play in AND work in.
Try trading in your basic straight leg trouser for a wide fitting microfiber pant. Find one with a structured waist that allows for a flattering fit when wearing for a wide pant to work. An elastic waistband is comfortable but can tend to read too casual. A wide legged pant is easily paired with a pump, or a platform for added comfort
Instead of the familiar black and blue power suits, try some fun patterns and textiles. Stripes are an easy way to break into patterns. Even layering a patterned blouse with a different textured jacket is a fun way to incorporate some of these ideas.
Don't forget that a great shoe and a great bag can really transform your attire. Instead of a basic tote, maybe sport a statement clutch or a bucket bag for a unique twist. Trade your black pump or flat in for a platform or even a sharp wedge from Trippen Shoes. Even switching up your accessories can create a completely unique look that will draw the eye.
Business wear never has to be drab and dreadful, and it can look different for every person. Don't be afraid to try something new and exciting. It will boost your confidence, improve your work habits, and open new doors. Good luck!
