I ran into constant trouble whether the dress didn’t fit correctly, the dress didn’t offer enough support, the fabric looked too harsh in the lighting, the seams didn’t line up or weren’t centered, and of course, the boning was all wrong. I was a mess as I submitted mediocre pieces and watched as all my fellow designers turned in stunning garments. My initial thoughts towards sewing were once again proved wrong and I realized how amazing it was that designers can not only think of a design and execute it, but can execute it beautifully.

The day of the show, I am so excited to honestly say that as I watched every piece come down the runway, I was awed and inspired. I was proud that my best efforts made it on the stage and was excited for my new friends as they won awards for their work. Believe it or not, it was all worth it.

I have created multiple pieces; however, entering the show provided me an opportunity to be address and engage other designers. I am so thankful that I pushed myself and got out of my comfort zone to try something new.

Designing and sewing are such interesting ways to work with your hands and create something entirely from your own mind. Not only do you get to produce your ideas but also you get to WEAR your ideas!

I invite everyone; no matter your experience level, gender, age, or interests, to try creating something for yourself and something for someone else. You will be challenged and inspired.

Good luck creating!
