Adjustment 2 Familiar Faces Saniya’s family have been given a backpack full of toys and learning aids for them to use at home when support workers from the Prabhat centre are not there. These toys remain unused and in pristine condition as Saniya’s parents are worried that she will spoil them if she were to use them. The toys feature Western characters like Barbie and Disney Princesses. Click to Play Video We made a new set of toys for Saniya based on her favourite Indian TV show, Taarak Mehta. The characters in the show are a cross-section of Indian society, including different religions and age groups. Saniya spends long periods of the day Saniya watching TV alone so by pulling out the familiar faces of the characters into soft everyday toys, we hope to open opportunities for interactive and imaginative role-play with other children based around a common interest. 10
