Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia is one of the cities in which rape is thriving. About 400,000 people who recently left the countryside moved to Mogadishu in the hopes of finding food; they were unable to find a place to live and in result have been placed in unsafe camps for the displaced. According to Muscati a journalist who recently visited Somalia; “women are raped in these flimsy shelters, or when they go to the market to collect firewood, or ride the bus (Muscati, 2014.)” These men know where to find vulnerable, minority or indigenous women and targeting them in the form of sexual abuse. Men are taking advantage of not only these women, but the lack of enforcement of the criminal system. The government has no problem overlooking the rape problem that is so obviously there.
