Vigorous exercise such as swimming , jogging
or running , or heavy manual labour once a week is likely to lower the chance of developing chronic musculoskeletal pain compared to being sedentary , research suggests .
In a study published in the journal PLOS ONE , Dr Nils Niederstrasser and University of Portsmouth colleague Dr Nina Attridge analysed data from more than 5,800 older adults who were taking part in the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing over ten years .
