These efforts typically involve meeting critical needs within networks that link the University with the public sector and businesses involved in space manufacturing and innovation .
The University also helps ensure that the sector as a whole has access to skilled professionals through space-centric training courses .
These services are delivered through a variety of means and include dedicated R & D , accreditation and training services . Some examples are :
• Leading the South Coast Centre of Excellence in Satellite Applications ( SCCoE ) partnership to innovate uses for satellite data and technology .
• Participation in the design , construction and exploitation of spacecraft by the ICG as part of larger consortia dedicated to exploring space .
• The ICG ’ s launch of the Innovation Hub to address shortfalls in data processing professionals for data-intensive technology .
• ASTA Technology , a subsidiary of the University of Portsmouth , which is the UK ’ s only European
Space Agency ( ESA ) -accredited provider of space engineering training .
• ASTA Technology is also a founding partner in the Horizon 5G partnership that integrates satellite , terrestrial and wi-fi technologies to seamless 5G communications .
• Participation in the Centre for Doctoral Training to develop the next generation of dataintensive scientists .
