loving every minute of it, and her youngest brother snoozed through the whole thing— head on the table and drool from his mouth, dripping onto the floor. He never heard a thing.
Q: What were your favorite places to visit?
A: My answer depends on the day you ask, and sometimes the hour, but the places that consistently stand out to me are New Zealand, Italy, and Croatia. All were mind-boggingly gorgeous, were full of friendly people, and had more to experience than we had time to explore them.
Q: What would you do differently, now that you’ ve done a year around the world with kids?
A: Next time, we’ d rather explore fewer places longer. It was fantastically fun to visit 30 countries, but it wasn’ t restful. We love the idea of perhaps staying in one general part of the world at a time, diving in deeper, or maybe visiting just one region per continent on a bigger trip. We’ re still grateful for every single thing we experienced, and we wouldn’ t change a thing— but I know all 5 of us would prefer to go even slower next time. Fewer places for longer would make that possible.
