Lux Mundi excursion

Recently a group of international friends of Lux Mundi , Torre del Mar , had a five day excursion to Cartagena . On arrival at the lovely , completely refurbished hotel , there was time to go out for lunch and to explore the city .
The following day there was a guided visit to the Roman sites , including the Roman Theatre Museum and spectacular Amphitheatre ( pictured ), the tour was extremely interesting with so much history in Cartagena .
The next day there was a visit to Murcia , the seventh largest city in Spain . It was a glorious day and many people visited the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria , created in 1394 on the site of a former mosque . The Royal Casino of Murcia with its fabulous facade was well worth a visit . This building which is celebrating its 175th anniversary is quite spectacular , and the most beautiful room is the ballroom with a majestic canvas of exotic landscapes covering the ceiling . There are also some beautiful sculptures in the Pompeian Court , including replicas of ‘ Danae ’ and ‘ La Amazona ’ by Policiata , which came from the Vatican Museum . Murcia is a lovely city and some of the group enjoyed looking around the shops .
There was free time on the fourth day to further explore Cartagena and , despite storms and torrential downpours during the morning , everyone enjoyed themselves visiting the fantastic Naval Museum , the Spanish Civil War Museum , the Military Museum and other interesting buildings .
The final morning was also free to walk around and to have a leisurely lunch before the return journey home . This trip was very enjoyable with a lovely group of people !
Lux Mundi would like to thank all who supported this excursion , which enables them to continue with their charitable work and we hope to see you all again at future events in the Centre and excursions .
