Good news for many who need their services - the volunteer translators have returned to both the Nerja Health Centre and Velez Malaga Hospital . They are there to help you from 8.30am to 2.30pm Monday to Friday .
Nerja Narrowboat
Soltalk readers Sue and Terry Brown spotted this narrowboat on the Trent and Mersey canal in Rugeley ( Staffordshire ) earlier in the year and
kindly sent us this photograph . They said they have no idea who James Arthur is , or if he still has a place in Nerja . If you ’ re reading this James Arthur please let us know ! Thanks very much Sue and Terry .
Royal British Legion
The Royal British Legion Nerja Branch kicked off their 2022 Remembrance events , as always , with their annual Poppy Walk ( pictured below ). 26 walkers ( and three dogs !) took part walking from the Al Andalus Hotel , Maro to the centre of Nerja . Among them was 84-year-old Dave Roy , former Warrant Officer with the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders . The event raised over € 2,300 for this year ’ s Poppy Appeal .
Special thanks to Sharon and Fred from the Chapel Bar who organised an excellent buffet and live music afterwards . Much enjoyed by all who attended . Thank you also to everyone who participated in or supported this event .
This month the Royal British Legion , Nerja Branch will mark Remembrance Day on Sunday 13 November at 11.30am at the Al Andalus Hotel , Maro . Everyone is welcome to join us to pay our respects . Caminito Centre
The new Visitor Centre at the Caminito del Rey opened officially last month on a 25,000 square metre site next to the MA- 5403 Ardales to El Chorro road . The Centre offers audiovisual information on the elevated pathway and its restoration , plus details of the surrounding countryside . A shuttle bus service takes
visitors from the 240-space car park to the start of the walking route .
Avenida Chimenea important notice !
The Town Hall is sending out letters to owners to inform them that roadworks will be carried out in the Avenida Chimenea area . The letter refers to this area called “ Fase III UE-24 ” and the works will include the following roads :
- Avenida Chimenea from the main road CN340 up to the small roundabout just before Capistrano Playa . Both sides of the road .
- Urbanization Pueblo Antequera . This includes the beginning part of Calle Lucena but not Urbanization Viñamar . - Calle Chumbera . The infrastructure roadworks will consist of installing the following services : Electricity , water , sewage , telephone , optical fibre , lamp posts , asphalt and pavements . The estimated starting dates of the roadworks will be in the first several months of 2023 and will finish around one year later , that could be before mid year 2024 . Please note that these dates are approximate and are just to give you an idea of the duration of the works .
In a few months time those affected will receive a letter to inform you of the payments each owner will have to make for these infrastructure roadworks and also the possibility of instalment payment facilities .
So we can contact you , and in case you don ’ t receive the letters or you are out of the country , we advise all owners of property in the area of Avenida Chimenea to send the Town Hall Planning Department an email to mescobar @ nerja . es with the following details : Your name , address of the property , email and telephones ( mobiles , land lines , Spanish and from your country ). Also send your address abroad for our files . Thank you .
