What’s On The Art Society Nerja The Arts Society Nerja has the pleasure to invite you to two events during the month of March. From Folklore to Flamenco: the Music of Málaga, its History and Rythms with music and dance by the Antonio Guerra Company. Narrator: Helen Sisjling Tuesday, March 24 at 18.00 at the Centro Cultural, Calle Granada, Nerja. Guests welcome: €10. Sponsor: Blevins Frank Monet and his Gardens, a fully illustrated lecture by Brian Healey, teacher, artist and interior designer. Tuesday, March 10 at 18.00 at Centro Cultural, Calle Granada, Nerja. Guests welcome: €10 The lecture is about the artist Claude Monet and his iconic garden in Giverny. It describes how Monet’s love for flowers and gardening grew and how it inspired him as an artist when he was young. In Monet’s old age, the garden in Giverny became his sole subject. His monumental waterlily series became an artistic climax. The event features live music and dance by the Antonio Guerra Company. Echoes of the past will fill the air; arabs, gypsies and smugglers. Instruments unique for Málaga will be heard like the lute, the banderillo and castanets. It will be a wonderful evening of authentic local Flamenco like Brian Healey (pictured right) is a senior modern language teacher. He has also enjoyed successful parallel careers as a professional artist and interior designer. He is an appreciated speaker on topics related to art history. He has lectured in more than 40 countries. In March 2017 he visited Nerja with a much appreciated lecture on Vincent van Gogh. Antonio Guerra the Malaguena and the Abandalo! The performance will be narrated by Helen Sisjling, President of the Arts Society Nerja. The Antonio Guerra Company also performed for the Arts Society in March 2019 in a stunning performance. 23
