Anyone for Jazz?
Lazy River Jazz Band are on tour for a
winter break to the Costa Del Sol and to
share their passion for “happy jazz”.
Band leader Chris Perrin and wife
Veronica have played in and around
Nerja for a few years as Brief Encounter
Duo but have now decided it’s time to
bring the band over from the UK. It has
a full seven piece line up and plays old
style New Orleans and Classic Jazz. The
repertoire includes vintage numbers
from the 1920s and 30s and later
numbers from the NO revival period of
the 40s and 50s. You can expect to hear
elements of blues, gospel, ragtime, stride
and stomps. It’s authentic sounding,
good for dancing and has that feel good
factor. The band members have huge
experience and have some of the best
players on the circuit. The band plays
Nerja Cultural Centre on Friday March
15, starting at 9pm. Tickets are €10 at the
door. They will also play in Eshivira
Club, Granada on Saturday March 16, at
11pm. See advertisement on page 51.
it’s not to be missed! With quality tapas
served all day and an extensive well-
established menu, this delightful
beachfront bar and restaurant is quite
simply unique. Enjoy fantastic Sunday

Residents’ Day
Residents’ Day takes place earlier than
usual this year on Sunday March 24.
Soltalk will be there so do drop in to say
hello! And the Royal British Legion
Trumps Bridge Nerja
Trumps Bridge Club’s Annual
Tournament took place this year on
Saturday February 9. It was held at The
Nerja Club Hotel. Sixteen tables of
members competed and the competition
was divided into two sections playing
identical boards. An Arrow switch final
movement determined the overall
winners. Congratulations go to:
Derek Winterflood and Ewa Celinska
(pictured with Marion Talbot) 61.25%.
Nerja Branch will again be running their
popular tombola with loads of fabulous
prizes up for grabs. Come and visit them
on the day, test your luck and support
the RBL .
Nerja Players
Nerja Players have two events this
month: March 5 - Two short plays
1. If I Can't Take It With Me, I Won't Go!
2. Funeral Tea. They present two one-act
plays with a common theme. Both share
the black humour frequently
surrounding the otherwise solemn event
of a funeral. One set in rural Ireland, the
other in Yorkshire, they feature typical
and entertaining characters to meet our
expectations, providing a hilarious
scenario of confusion, misunder-
standings and an unexpected twist in the
tail. A light-hearted and fun evening!
March 19 - The Two Bees Take On
Runners up: Cris Layton and Mark
Overton 58.75% and third place:
Jette Lind and Andrew Gore.
Liz Cogley proposed the vote of thanks
to Marion Talbot for organising the
event. Our thanks and appreciation go to
Micheal O'Brien for preparing the
boards in advance. Also to the Nerja
Club Hotel for a very successful event.
Brexit. John Brentley & Peter Burch will
once again put their heads together and
attempt to make you laugh. No matter
where you stand, remain, leave or
somewhere in the middle, this evening is
all about letting go of our differences
and find some good old-fashioned
humour through all the chaos of the past
two years. See page 63 for details of the
venue.
Book signing in Nerja
On the morning of March 28th, between
10am and 12.30pm local author Paul S
Bradley will be signing copies of his new

corner of Calle
Granada and
Plaza Cavana in
Nerja.

second book of
the Andalusian
Mystery Series

linked by a shared Darkness. In this
volume grizzled DI Leon Prado and his
translators, American videographer
Amanda Salisbury and ex-British soldier
Phillip Armitage, fathom an intriguing
case in the world of bullfighting. The

experiences lecturing about bullfighting
and translating in hospitals and police
stations. See the website for more
