CAS News
Don ’ t leave pets in cars !
With the arrival of summer , CAS is reminding dog owners to never leave their pets locked in the car . Police officers can and will break in to rescue the animals and will prosecute the owner .
In Torre del Mar police broke into a car parked in the town ’ s Plaza de la Paz to rescue six dogs suffering from dehydration . Passers-by raised the alert after the car had been standing in the sunshine for five hours . When the owner finally appeared two hours later , he was told the dogs , which were unregistered , had been taken to a welfare centre .
And on a very hot day in the UK a couple of summers ago , a Nottingham police dog handler left two German shepherds in his parked car where the temperature quickly rose to almost 50 degrees . Both dogs died within 20 minutes and the officer was prosecuted .

CAS cat corner
The Costa Animal Society currently has many cats available for adoption . Say hello to these two rascals . Kenzo is a long haired female and just over a year old . She needs a new home as she is currently having to be kept indoors all of the time , which is not good for her . She ’ s been neutered , vaccinated and chipped so can travel anywhere . She has a very friendly nature and gets on fine with the owners ’ dog and they think that she ’ d probably be fine with another cat as well .
Kenzo
Tom is a fluffy boy cat , believed to be about 10 months old . He turned up at a rental accommodation where animals are not allowed . His finders have treated him against fleas and worms and are happy to get him vaccinated and castrated but they are unable to keep him and would like a loving home for him .
They say he has a fabulous temperament , really easy going , adores a daily brush and loves his food . If you can offer a loving home to either Kenzo or Tom please contact CAS on 95 252 9670 or on Facebook at / casnerja .

Could you help CAS ?
CAS is always in need of more volunteer helpers in a number of areas , so if you have spare time to fill , please make contact !
In particular , more fundraisers are needed to work with our team , people are required to help with the feeding of the cats at the numerous feeding stations maintained by CAS , and animal lovers who could undertake a monthly airport run are necessary to take animals being re-homed in northern Europe to catch their flights .
In addition , fosterers are always required to take short-term care of animals until a permanent home can be found for them . Even if you are only here for few months a year , CAS would appreciate your help .
For a no-obligation chat , contact Vera on 95 252 9670 for general enquiries . Simone on 619 903 815 can answer queries about airport runs in English or German . Thank you .
Keep in touch with the Costa Animal Society through the CAS website ( casnerja . org ).
