Beach concession
Nerja Town Hall announced last month that the company Cielo de Montera has been awarded the contract to build the restaurant planned for the town ’ s Calahonda beach with a construction budget of € 670,000 . The business then selected to operate the facility will pay the municipality an annual concession of € 72,000 . Work on the site immediately to the east of the Balcón de Europe is expected to take four months after the building permit is issued .
Rail fail
AVE rail services to and from Málaga were seriously affected on January 17 following a breakdown in a stretch of the overhead power lines between La Sagra and Mora in the province of Toledo . Single-track working resulted in delays to 16 trains while others were cancelled . The stretch was completely closed for a time to enable the rescue of passengers in two trains stranded by the lack of power .
Canillas grant
Canillas de Aceituno is offering grants of € 750 to families in the town with new born or newly adopted babies . Mayor Vicente Campos said that as well as helping with extra parental expenses , the initiative would , “ help to promote the birth rate in the municipality .” Applications must be made within three months following the birth or the resolution of the adoption .
Dog found
A dog which ran off after his owner was involved in a road accident has been found after spending three days last month hiding in a cave . Tokyo disappeared when his owner ’ s SUV ended up in the Gui river area in El Morche . The owner , who was unhurt , was reunited with Tokyo following appeals on social media .
Call to speed up desalination plans
The regional government has called for full collaboration to speed up the provision of a desalination plant in the Axarquía . Speaking in Nerja last month , the President of the Junta de Andalucía , Juanma Moreno , said he wanted to reduce the anticipated 18 month period of study and investigation before a construction contract can be awarded .
He underlined that the Junta is “ already working and studying the possibilities ” which will improve this time scale , adding that it has already been incorporated into the region ’ s “ accelerator unit .” Sr Moreno added that his administration ’ s commitment to the project is “ total ” and expressed concern for “ the adverse circumstances
Last year saw 1,829 fewer people registered as unemployed in the Axarquía . The biggest drops were recorded in Vélez-Málaga and Nerja .
Data from the State Public Employment Service ( SEPE ) shows that 480 fewer people were looking for work in Vélez-Málaga , while the figure for Nerja was down by 450 , a fall of 20 per cent in a year , making it one of the most important reductions in the province of Málaga . we are going through due to the drought and lack of rain ,” for which it has urged alternative solutions to be sought .
The region is to invest € 4,000 million in hydraulic projects , some of which are already underway . However , it should be noted that in December , unemployment in Nerja rose once again , as happened in eight other towns in the interior of the region .
Elsewhere , Rincón de la Victoria saw a fall of 335 in its unemployment total , and Torrox recorded 253 fewer out of work . Only Macharaviaya and Totalán recorded increased levels , while Alfarnate saw no difference year-onyear .
Caleta development project
Sol , with around 110 vessels berthed in the harbour , alongside a marina accommodating a growing number of recreational craft .
The new project aims to integrate Caleta further within the municipality of Vélez-Málaga with more pedestrianisation and the development of roads . The budget includes refurbishing all services , including water supply , drainage and irrigation , as well as providing street furniture .
