Match Points and
Bonus Points
The following points are awarded on the
basis of the result of each match:
Each match winning team is awarded
four match points or (if it scores four
tries or more in the process) five match
points.
Each match losing team if it scores four
tries or more in the process or loses by a
margin of seven points or fewer will be
awarded one match point or if it scores
four tries or more and loses by a margin
of seven points or fewer will be awarded
two match points.
Teams that draw a match will each be
awarded two match points and any that
scores four tries or more in the process
shall be awarded a further one match
point.
Championship
Placings
The team with the highest number of
match points will be placed first and the
other teams placed in descending order
according to the match points awarded.
If two or more teams finish the
Championship with the same number of
points, they will be placed according to
points difference in all matches.
If any teams also have the same points
difference, they will be placed according
to the number of tries (including penalty
tries) scored by each team in all matches.
If any teams have also scored the same
number of tries (including penalty tries),
they will be placed equally.
Trophies
The following trophies and awards will
be presented:
Guinness Six Nations Championship
Trophy (pictured right) and individual
medals to the winning team.
If the winning team has defeated all five

other teams, it is given the title ‘Grand
Slam Winner’. The Triple Crown is
awarded if one of the four home nations
(England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales)
defeats the other three.
