Dutch born artist Coby Bloemsma paints in oils and acrylics and often makes collages. Portraits and the human figure are her favourite subjects which she paints from live models. She uses an abundance of styles, from realistic to abstract, and likes to use mixed media. When walking around the gallery you would think there have been different artists at work. After retiring as a PR officer for the Dutch Early-risers Maureen Parkin, Lisa Davies, Elaine Gosling and Sylvia Manly all made it to the 9.30am Move It To Music! Saturday class at Nerja’s Millenium Wellness Center. To meet popular demand, these 9.30am classes are taking place every Saturday until the end of February in addition to the usual 11am start time. Move It To Music! Move It To Music! instructor Naomi Diestro (left) is delighted to team up with Sandra Ortega Atencia, owner of Nerja’s Millenium Wellness Center, to run Saturday dance fitness classes in Sandra’s light, bright and altogether rather lovely venue in Pasaje Milenio 3 (just off the far entrance to Nerja’s Carabeo car park). These fun, low-impact and judgement-free classes take place every Saturday until Easter. Channels changing The arrival of 5G mobile phone technology in the province of Málaga means imminent changes for TDT (digital) television viewers. Many channels will be changing frequency this month with 58 municipalities affected on February 13 and a further 26 on February 17. Residents’ Communities have been advised to contact their local dealers while individual viewers may have to retune their receivers. Art and Bio Food On the beautiful, peaceful seafront of El Morche is a brand new venue called “Bio Beach Club” where artist Coby Bloemsma is exhibiting her latest paintings and objects. Restaurant/cafe/ gallery Bio Beach Club opened last Cádiz, Seville, Bilbao or the Teatro Real in Madrid. The newlyweds travelled through Europe in a camper van for five years with their dog. They finally settled in Spain. Coby has lived in the Axarquía area for the past ten years. Last December Nerjamar Real Estate decided to support two local charities and launched an appeal for donations. The response surpassed all expectations! Almost 100 new toys were collected for the Red Cross who were delighted with the donation. They were giving presents to over 150 children in the local area for Three King’s on January 6. And over 280 non-perishable food and toiletry items The gallery is a spacious and light filled area inside the restaurant and is open during the restaurant hours. (closed on Tuesdays). Coby’s exhibition finishes on the February 19. Every four weeks Bio Beach Gallery will feature a new artist. Artists can contact her if they are interested in exhibiting. Opera at the Parador The first and only opera recital of this season from Venta Abierta. This year they change their usual venue and move to the extraordinary Parador de Nerja, where we will perform our usual recitals. This time we are accompanied by the soprano Alba Chantar and the tenor Francisco Arbós, regular singers in the opera seasons of the Cervantes Theatre in Málaga and in the opera seasons of 20 were collected for Caritas Nerja who support local families throughout the year. Their drop-off point is at the back of Iglesia El Salvador on the Balcón de Europa, Nerja and they are open Mondays and Fridays 11am – 1pm.
