Maro shuttle
A shuttle bus service has been introduced for visitors to the beach in Maro ( pictured above ) in order to relieve the parking congestion in the area . The service is operating throughout the summer between 10.00am and 8.00pm with a round-trip fare of € 1.50 . A new parking area for more than 100 vehicles has recently been opened and is being operated by the Taller de Amistad association .
Head-on injuries
Two people were injured in a head on collision on the N-340 at Almayate on July 15 , which left a 4x4 on its roof . One of the drivers was trapped in his vehicle and had to be cut free by fire crews . The drivers of both cars were transferred to hospital in Vélez-Málaga for treatment .
Home thefts
Reports suggest that a spate of burglaries on private homes in the Axarquía in recent weeks is the work of the same gang . Around two dozen properties have been targeted in Benajarafe , Cajiz and Lágos , including some entered while residents were asleep . The gang is said to be targeting houses in the countryside , cutting fences and forcing doors and windows to gain entry .
Car gang
National Police have broken up a gang which stolen high-end motor vehicles in Vélez-Málaga . Investigators say that over 50 off-road SUVs valued at over € 3 million were later sold to drugs dealers in Cádiz after location trackers and other devices were removed . Four people were arrested , three of whom were ordered to be held in custody .

Water warning

Water supplier Axaragua says supplies are guaranteed this summer , but adds that both municipal departments and local residents should be responsible and optimise resources . Vice-president Gregorio Campos said last month that almost 100 litres per second is being drawn from the reservoir at Vélez- Málaga , adding that it had been about 50 days since any water had been transferred from the western part of the province of Málaga .
In the middle of July , the Axarquía reservoir was below 14 per cent of capacity , with only 23 cubic hectometres of water stored . Sr Campos said that the water situation by the end the summer would be “ complicated .”

El Morche ’ s new sports complex

Councillors in Torrox have given the goahead to a project for a new sports complex in El Morche . It is to be constructed in the Finca Santa Rosa urbanization , in the Los Llanos area , south of the Los Llanos and Alfaguar Schools .
The site of around 27,000 square metres is expected to include a soccer pitch with stands and changing rooms , plus facilities for other sports , commercial space , restaurants and storage areas , with underground parking . Outside , a leisure and picnic area will offer recreational facilities , including space for children ’ s games .
