What does sustainability mean to you and what do you do at work and / or at home to reduce your environmental footprint ? I believe sustainability is very important both off- and onshore . At work we always do proper waste handling at the environmental station ashore and we never throw anything overboard . When alongside we also connect to shore power every time it is possible to do so .
What is the most significant thing you have achieved in your career so far and why ? My biggest achievement so far was when I became an anchor handler AB . It is a position where there is a lot of action , and it is a lot of fun . When thinking about the future I might one day work towards becoming a crane operator on one of the CSV vessels in Solstad , but time will show .
How has your perception of the offshore industry changed over the past years ? I think the industry has changed a lot over the past years due to the oil crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic . But I do believe we are now looking at a much brighter future ahead of us .
If you got the chance to name the next Solstad vessel , what name would you give it ? I would like to bring the name Normand Master back to the fleet . I really liked that name .
If you had any advice to young persons considering working offshore , what would it be ? I have been working offshore for over 15 years and 10 of them in Solstad . I got the opportunity to see and
experience Malaysia , South Africa , Trinidad Rizza & Ombao Tobago ,,
second officer on
Bahamas and the Mediterranean . If you are Normand looking for Flipper a takes a photo on the vessel in Aberdeen harbour overlooking the new office
demanding , but fun working environment where you can work in different projects and experience different parts of the world at the same time , I would really recommend starting a career offshore .
Shipping is traditionally a male dominated industry but Solstad believes in equal opportunities . Would you recommend women to start a career in Solstad ? I would definitely recommend women to start a career in Solstad . I have worked with women on anchor handlers before and I experience that it is very healthy for the industry to have more balance and diversity onboard .
What do you think makes a great team aboard a vessel ? A great team onboard is when everyone is on the same page , working towards the same goals and creating a healthy working environment .
What type of work do you enjoy most aboard the vessel ? Metal work and , of course , anchor handling .
What challenges are you facing now at work ? The main challenge we are facing is that we do not have enough able seamen with anchor handling experience , we need to recruit and train more seafarers .
What inspires you to do a better job for the company ? I really like working for Solstad Offshore and that inspires me to do a good job for the company .
