A green operation is an operation that reduces
the onboard consumption of fuel by at least 500
liters per day. For each green operation Solstad
Offshore pays for the protection of 1000 m2 of
rainforest during one year through the Rainforest
Foundation. The process of introducing green
operations to the Nor fleet began the first quarter
of 2012.
- I don’t really like to talk about the Nor
and Normand vessels in this context anymore,
as they’re part of the same fleet and very well
integrated. Moreover, the crews onboard the nine
vessels operating from Singapore have made
a remarkable effort in order to become part of
the Solstad Green Operations success, Isaksen
says. He says that the crew has made numerous
comments and suggestions, and that an increasing number of green operations are carried out
onboard. One of the ships to do very well in
Solstad’s internal SGO competition is Nor Chief,
with a total of 1731 SGOs. All ships implementing at least 200 green operations in a year may
hoist the SGO flag. In August 2012 the Nor Chief
crew, as the first ship of the Nor fleet, was able
to hoist the flag, proudly proving they have made
their contribution to green operations. After Nor
Chief received the first flag more and more ships
have got theirs. By the end of the fourth quarter
of 2013 the SGO flag is flying from the mast of
half the fleet.
