Solships - Solstad Offshore ASA 04/2009 - Christmas edition | Page 4

Med vennlig hilsen Lars Peder Solstad In addition, our joint venture company in Singapore, Nor Offshore, has taken delivery of a new build, the Nor Australis which began on a long-term contract for Woodside in Australia. The company continues to grow and now has 44 vessels in operation and 6 under construction. I am very glad that we are increasing our presence in Brazil. We now have an organization in Rio de Janeiro which will assist us in becoming a major player in the Brazilian market. This market is exciting not only on the purely operational side as it suits the type of ship and operations we have experience with, but also because there are so many large and exciting projects to be developed on the Brazilian Continental Shelf in the years to come. Recently we have entered several contracts with Petrobras and during the winter we will have a total of 7 vessels in this country. That we had to take the steps to send out redundancies towards the end of the year was a difficult decision to make. But the outlook ahead gave us no hope of getting “special” vessels such as the Normand Draupne or Normand Mermaid any work in the foreseeable future. We are working hard to try and make the lay up period as short as possible. Despite the fact that 2010 will be a difficult year I think that already by this time next year the picture will seem lighter than it does just now. As our 45 year jubilee reminds us, we have been in this branch for some time now and we shall get through this downturn as well. And who knows – perhaps it may bring some exciting opportunities with it? In the meantime we must continue to operate in a safe manner. We are steadily improving and the whole organization must pull in the same direction to achieve our common target to prevent injuries. At the same time we must also pay attention to our costs in the current market. Each of us must be better to help to cut costs. Through the campaign we have started, everyone has an opportunity to contribute to this process. Finally I would like to thank everyone in the company for their efforts during the year that is almost over and end with a good old fashioned wish for a peaceful Christmas and a very Happy New Year to all our employees at sea and onshore, their families, our clients, suppliers and bankers and last, but not least, our pensioners.
