FILM CAREER SoCultures : I bet from there onwards you might have started dreaming to become a superstar one day. When did your film debut happen and your experiences from that movie? Chaplin: The film’s name was “Make a Living” but the movie’s result was we couldn’t make a living from it. It wasn’t something we expected from it. SoCultures: So, how did you change your style and preparations which made your movies instant hits after that? Chaplin: Yes, with the result of my first movie I had to do something different. So, I stopped overacting and became more delicate and precise in my movements… acting. SoCultures : I guess we have arrived now at the question which everyone will be wishing for. How did “The Tramp” originate, which made you famous around the world? Chaplin: To differentiate myself from the other set of actors, we planned to make a single identifiable character and created “The little Tramp” in 1915. We introduced him in a movie called “Kid Auto Races at Venice” and the response we received from the audience was amazing. SoCultures : The scene where you get stuck in a cage with lion is one of my favorites from The Tramp’s character. Chaplin: Ha! Ha! I receive a lot of appreciation about it. I think you are talking about this movie, “The Circus”. 46 SOCULTURES JAN-FEB2019 left pic from 'A Dog's Life' (1918),Chaplin as 'the Tramp' in 1915, (wikimedia)
