Sustainable Tourism Development 3P: Planet / Nature, People / Society,
and Prosperity / Welfare
The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) defines
sustainable tourism as tourism which considers three major aspects, namely
environmental, social, and economic today and front.
In the world, Sustainable Tourism Development has become a trend, namely
the development of tourism by considering 3P: Planet / Nature, People /
Society, and Prosperity / Welfare. The aspect of people is that we must pay
attention to what tourists want, then the planet is how we treat and maintain
tourist attractions, and finally we must pay attention to the economic values
of a tourist place.
The Ministry of Tourism has developed a Sustainable Tourism Development
(STD) by establishing a Sustainable Tourism Observatory (STO), second in
Asia after China. The program provides assistance to tourist destinations, so
tourism provides economic benefits to local communities. This assistance is
expected so that the benefits can continue and be maintained.
This program is in line with the program of the United Nations World
Tourism Organization (UNWTO). Where there are currently 18 international
tourism destinations registered as STO locations in UNWTO, 5 of them are
in Indonesia. The 5 regions are pilot projects that aim to illustrate that
Indonesia is not only Bali but there are also other destinations that are
sustainable tourism. The pilot areas are Pangandaran (West Java), Sleman
(DIY), and Sesaot Lombok (NTB), and then followed by Samosir / Lake
Toba (North Sumatra), and Sanur (Bali).
Go green! Make an impact, travellers!
