New Year France
La Saint-Sylvestre
A French Soirée
In France, New Year’s Eve is also called La Saint-Sylvestre. As December 31 st is
Saint Sylvester’s feast day and hence it’s also called La Saint-Sylvestre. New
Year's Day, or January 1, is le jour de l’an. New Year’s Eve feast is
called leRéveillon de la Saint-Sylvestre.
New Year's Eve is traditionally spent with
friends, and dancing, rejoicing, singing It’s
a sight to see people all dressed up colouful
and happy and beautiful in a ball. Some
throw des cotillons (confetti and streamers),
blow into the air While it strikes midnight,
it’s time to kiss, shake hands and hug…
shout, applaud and generally make some
noise. Champagne is a must as are good
wine, oysters, foie gras and other delicacies.
