Celebrating New Beginnings
New Year Bulgaria
Until the World War II, Bulgaria had agriculture as its main economy and before
economic collapse in 1990. The upheavals later caused political, economical and
social issues that slowed down the development. But now it’s in healthy shape and
emerging as stable and strong economy.
The everyday diet is based largely on local, in-season products particularly yogurt
and white-brined cheese as bread, cheese, sausage, and vegetables. Banitsa is a
popular pastry filled with cheese and eggs, pumpkin, rice. For Christmas or New
Year's, fortunes in the form of coins, cornel cherry twigs, or slips of paper are used
in it.
