SOCIOPATH PROFILE:

MAIRIN MURPHY, 17

It's possible that you know a sociopath. The statistics are that 1 in 25 people is a sociopath. This doesn't mean that you should avoid them at all costs, though. Not all sociopaths are violent masterminds. You can still be best friends with a sociopath, and it won't jeopardize your friendship with them.

Mairin Murphy, a seventeen year old girl, recently took the Levenson Sociopathy Test so she could relate to a character in a book she was reading,The Talented Mr. Ripley. "I was expecting to be above average, but I didn't think I would score as high as I did." Murphy, a junior at Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo, California, explained that she "knew she had a more scientific brain than a creative brain, so [she] knew she wasn't that empathetic." But Mairin was mildly surprised when she ended her test and found that she had scored higher than 87% of people who had previously taken the test, and that very few people received the score that she did. "I mean, I'm not going to go around killing people or anything," she said with a grim laugh. "I'm not fazed by the fact that I'm a sociopath."
