Active Social Bodies

Pakistan Cultural Heritage Caravan Society

PCHCS has identified the issues that are posing threats to natural and cultural diversity in Pakistan through its comprehensive social assessment campaign in 2012. On recommendations of working groups following thematic issues which were selected:

Safeguarding Cultural Diversity

“To conserve the cultural diversity by reducing social inequality within communities and society”

The foremost threat to cultural and natural diversity is posed by social inequality. The differences in income, resources, power and status within and between societies are widening the gaps between have and have-not in Pakistan. PCHCS aligns its approach to conserve the cultural diversity through poverty reduction, increasing access to informal education for marginalized communities, increasing participation of youth and women in cultural activities.

Arts for Change

To endure the idea and presentation of contemporary creative expression by Pakistani artists and cultural organizations to evolve as avent-garde for conservation of cultural heritage.

Pakistani artists and arts organizations are the vanguards of community change and have made substantial contributions to social justice struggles. PCHCS is committed to promote Pakistani artists and arts and cultural organizations to develop their creative capability and make long-lasting contributions to society. PCHCS aims to promote arts for improving the quality and brilliance of creative expressions of Pakistani artists for sustainable community development. =

Indigenous Cultural Landscapes

To ensure the participation of indigenous communities in development of policy on mitigating risks posed by natural disasters and climate change and empower them to safeguard cultural landscapes

Indigenous peoples and local communities are often divorced from the great global argument about causes and magnitudes of climate change and have less or no participation in the formulation of policies focus on climate change. PCHCS asserts that these communities have gained first-hand knowledge regarding impacts of climate change, and their practices and norms of agriculture and biological systems is equally important to know more about the climate change. These communities need to be mobilized and initiative must be focused on their capacity development to raise voice for their cultural rights. Floods, earthquakes in Pakistan have affected the lives of millions. There is a need for developing strategies to endure the calamities and climate change through inclusion of local perspectives about rights relating to land, area, culture, language livelihood and development.

Promoting Cultural Heritage

To promote a cultural rich soft image of Pakistan in world

Pakistan has a diverse and rich cultural heritage with ancient civilizations, river systems, mountains, plains, indigenous people , languages, dresses, historical places, festivals and ethnic diversity. In recent times, terrorism and extremism have hit hard at tarnishing the soft image of Pakistan in international community. PCHCS believes that our cultural heritage is our great asset and strength. There is a need to develop a cultural rich soft image of Pakistan in the world.
