“ Sadly, I believe many mothers don’ t feel confident about their mothering skills, so they don’ t relax and actually enjoy their babies. Being away from family and friends, and with husbands who work all day, makes it more challenging to raise babies in Doha” will present“ Understanding the Science of your Baby’ s Sleep,” as this is a key survival skill for parents of newborns. She believes that mothers of young babies need greater access to accurate pre- and post-natal information and support.
Dr Renu says,“ Sadly, I believe many mothers don’ t feel confident about their mothering skills, so they don’ t relax and actually enjoy their babies. Being away from family and friends, and with husbands who work all day, makes it more challenging to raise babies in Doha”. Dr Renu continues,“ In other countries, mothers would seek parenting advice from other healthcare professionals which are not readily available here. In Qatar they may only have access to their paediatrician. Some moms feel too shy to ask their doctor for advice, for fear of appearing
‘ stupid’, or thinking their concerns are trivial, so resort to posting their questions on social media forums. These forums are great for community spirit or the sense that‘ we are all in the same boat’ despite our different backgrounds.”
Dr Renu adds,“ Mothers in these groups can give good advice based on their personal experiences, but sometimes they can misinform others about best practice. Mums here need access to good information to prepare for childbirth, breastfeeding and infant care to lessen anxiety and build confidence. I am happy to be participating in this Pregnancy & Parenting event to inform and provide advice to parents.”

“ We are all motivated to help parents. But we are limited in what we can do alone. If we are able to participate in initiatives like‘ Pregnancy and Parenting’, which work towards a common goal of greater access and improved quality of services across all areas that impact health and education, it drives progress and growth at a far greater level”
