Social Therapy Mag: How long have you been in the game?
Devoted Niddy: I’ve always had an infatuation with music. In my early years, from ages 12-16, I started off ghost writing for many artists as well as composing Christian lyrics. Although I acquired great talent in writing lyrics for the “Christian” genre, I’ve always had a passion for “Hip Hop.” In light of this, I’ve been consistently on that route for the past 2 ½ years.
Social Therapy Mag: How many mixtapes do you have out now, and do you currently have an album out?
Devoted Niddy: I currently have “0” mixtapes out, however, I am featured on several artists’ mixtapes and I have my EP/Mixtape, entitled “Gotham Philly,” which is scheduled to be released on September 11th, 2012. This mixtape features the hits “Dark Knight,” “Poppin Bottles” (featuring the “Supa Kliq”), and my new single “I’m Back.”
In addition to “Gotham Philly,” I also have a group mixtape with my big bro, Dot Da Joker, entitled “Paper View” which is scheduled to be released Dec 25th. It’s going to be Epic!!!!
I have my own artist “Uptown Ski’s,” mixtape coming soon entitled “Welcome to Empire Life” to be released at the end of 2012; early 2013!!!
Social Therapy Mag: Are you signed to any label? If not, what record labels would you sign with?
Devoted Niddy: No I’m not signed. I currently have my own imprint that I’m building from the ground up called “Devoted Empire.” I want to be my own boss and build something that stands for something, a brand that I can stand behind that one day will stand on its own. In addition, I would like to provide an outlet for other talented artist to get seen and heard. More importantly, acquire the opportunity to gain creative control of their own destiny.
As far as signing goes I would do a 50/50 venture with and big label, “ya dig,” more money, more exposure if the $$$ and contract is right, “feel me!”
Social Therapy Mag: Who have you collabed with so far and who would you like to collab with?
Devoted Niddy: So far I’ve collabed with my partner in crime, “Dot da Joker” and my artist “Uptown Ski” a young talented kid. I’ve done songs with E-Ness (formerly of Bad Boy Records) in addition to that I’ve starred in a video for Reed Dollaz. Also I did song with the homie Ranlive Salute.
Social Therapy Mag: Are there any producers you would like to work with?
Devoted Niddy: Yes, I’m currently working with a producer by the name of “JSparkz Beatz,” he produced my new single “I’m back” off the upcoming EP “Gotham Philly.” But as far as who I would like to work with, I’ll work with anybody as long as they have the song and the beats are “hot,” that’s what I’m looking for. I love the “swag” beats and also beats the allow me to tell my story “ya dig?” So producers, holla at me and lets work, make some more hits.
I’ve also worked with the producer “Pace-o-Beats.” He did the beat for “Dark Knight,” salute to him, because “Dark Knight” makes the crowd go crazy on any scene “ya dig?”
Social Therapy Mag: Do you have any shows coming up?
Devoted Niddy: Yes I do, I still have my staff working on confirming dates and things of that nature so for that info go to my website www.DevotedEmpire.com and also hit me up on twitter @devotedniddy to stay updated on my whereabouts and upcoming shows and events.
Social Therapy Mag: Do you have videos out?
Devoted Niddy: Yes I do, it’s entitled “Living Life Fast” featuring “Dot Da Joker.” It’s my very 1st video and it was shot on my block and on my mom’s steps. So that was kind of cool for me to be back in my hood and shoot a video. I loved it and I’m currently working on the treatment for my “Poppin’ Bottles” featuring the “Supakliq,” so look out for that. Anyone interested in being a cameo in the video, hit my email up at Devotedempirelife@gmail.com for location and time.
Social Therapy Mag: What do you want people to know about Devoted Niddy?
Devoted Niddy: First and foremost, I’m a young God fearing dude that puts my family above all else. I have a Wife and two little girls that I adore; and they mean the world to me “ya dig.” Other than that, I’m a hard working artist that loves what I do and is always working on perfecting my craft. I’m constantly trying to get better and try different types of music and not be afraid to try different sounds. I also raise the bar and make better sounding music that the mass audience can relate to and help express my feelings, as well as express the feeling of my fans. See, I try to be a voice for the people that feel like their voice isn’t big enough to be heard.
I’m a well-grounded person. My kids and my wife, they keep me that way. My wife will tell me if I need to change my words and when a song or style of rap doesn’t fit me; this alone keeps me level headed with this music, and they bring me back to life. They make sure I don’t get lost at sea with this music “so to speak.”
