Social Therapy: Taphy Spencer, where are you from?Taphy Spencer: I was born and raised in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia, PA.Social Therapy: How long have you been singing and what got you started?

Taphy Spencer: I've been singing since the age of 5 or 6 where I earned the lead solo in the children's choir at my church.

Social Therapy: What artists did you listen to growing up?

Taphy Spencer: I grew up listening to and I’m a fan of Brandy, Lauryn Hill, Faith Evans, Kim Burrell and Kelly Price. These women are AMAZING artists!

Social Therapy: Are you signed?

Taphy Spencer: I am not currently signed, but I’ve had offers made to me in the past. At the time the deal was offered to me I was a gospel artist. However, the record label wanted me to be an R&B artist, which just wasn't in my comfort zone or a priority for me at the time. But since then I've broadened the scope of my musical spectrum and am not only making R&B songs, but also Pop, Hip Hop and Rock.

Social Therapy: Do you have any cds or videos currently out?

Taphy Spencer: I do have a cd out entitled, "Dreamer," which can be purchased on iTunes, or via my website www.taphyspencer.com. I am currently working on my new album. I haven't yet come up with a name for it, but I anticipate its release.

Social Therapy: Have you done any shows?

Taphy Spencer: I've done many shows, but my most recent show was to open for Christopher Williams (Did the soundtrack to New Jack City – “Dreamin”). That show was awesome! My band and background singers were amazing! They made it easy for me to just relax in indulge into my music and the audience.

Social Therapy: What would you say some of your best accomplishments were so far in the music?

Taphy Spencer: I would say one of my best accomplishments in dealing with music is my networking ability, and managing to put band members together. I’ve managed to pull together some really awesome talent. Also I have executive produced my own album, where I had the opportunity to wear multiple hats (i.e. songwriter, arranger, executive producer, singer, etc.).

Social Therapy: So what’s next for Taphy Spencer?

Taphy Spencer: Let's see, along with my newest project, I'm currently immersed in a project with my writing team developing songs for a "very well-known artist" that shall remain nameless at this point.

Social Therapy: Where can fans hear your music?

Taphy Spencer: www.taphyspencer.com, Google, Itunes, Reverbnation, CD Baby
