Travel to NYC
S
tudents in the Media, Journalism, and Film
department at Howard University traveled
to New York City on March 22 and 23.
The Howard University Association of Black
Journalists (HUABJ) planned and hosted
the trip, which allowed members and non-members
to visit major media companies in New York City.
Students visited Complex, Essence, BET, CNN,
and NBC Universal;they also learned about
the graduate journalism programs at Columbia
University and New York University.
The New York visit gave students
opportunities to meet with individuals in the media
and learn about the media industry. Students also
met Howard University alumni who hold positions
at various media outlets.
Although the trip was hosted by HUABJ,
Cover to Cover Magazine and the National Press
Photographers Association (NPPA) also attended
the trip. Additionally, students in majors outside the
School of Communications were also allowed to
attend the trip.

Howard University’s School of
Communications strongly believes in helping
students build a strong network to gain jobs
and internship opportunities. Howard University
students enjoyed learning about the media industry
and are excited to apply the new connections they
gained to their lives.
As they returned to Washington, D.C., the
students expressed their gratitude toward
Professor Jennifer Thomas and the Media,
Journalism, and Film department for the
opportunity to see an accurate depiction of their
future goals. Many students are enthusiastic
about building new relationships and gaining new
opportunities.
HUABJ plans to continue the NYC trip in
upcoming years to motivate students to strive
for success as they matriculate through
