When this era emerged, post-war time, it was such a change. During the war time women had to wear practical working clothes. Because many men volunteered and were sent to war women were left to work jobs to make a family income. This is how their fashion collided with their lifestyle and their lifestyle took priority. It was necessary for not just practical clothing but darker, monochrome colours to mourn the dead. Women felt it would be a dishonour to dress in happy colours when it was such an unhappy time. Finally this dreaded era ended and back in came thrilling fashion. As always, it is impossible to tell for sure just how some styles come into trend, it just seems one person decides to make a fashion statement and with patience and bravery others seem to follow in their footsteps. One of the main reasons for the fashion in this particular era is often led back to the rise in magazine publishment. Clothing started to become less about practicality and more about style. Women began to follow the models and the current trends, no matter how uncomfortable they were. This era also brought about Haute couture which is essentially expensive pieces by certain brands. Shops began to be able to sell clothes at a higher price as the higher the price, the more special it was to own.
