1. Ty in approx. 12 strands Flashabou. Leave them long to trim later.

2. Prep a clump of deer hair about HALF the size of a pencil at the base. Even up the tips (do not stack) and trim the base to reduce bulk.

With the thread waiting at a position even with the hook point, ty in the clump of Deer Hair allowing the tips to extend approx. 1 ½ X the hook length. Set the clump on top of the shank and wrap 3 times with thread. Using your thumb, push the clump down before tightening the thread. This action will push the hair evenly around the hook shank. Secure with several more turns of thread.

3. With the thread waiting at a position just in front of the hook point, ty in 2 Saddle Feathers on each side so the tips extend ½ more the distance of the Deer Hair. The tips should all be even. Secure with additional turns of thread.

4. With the thread waiting at a position just in front of point where the Saddle feathers were tied in. Prep a second clump of deer hair about the size of a pencil at the base. Even up the tips (do not stack) and trim the base to reduce bulk.

5. Set the clump on top of the shank and wrap 3 times with thread. Using your thumb push the clump down before tightening the thread. This action will push the hair evenly around the hook shank. Secure with several more turns of thread.

6. Ty in 2 Saddle feathers (Use the trimmed base of the feathers used for the tail feathers if possible). Prep the feather so that when it is wrapped around the shank, the wispy part of the feather is used. Ty in by the tips and wrap the two feathers at the same time 3 to 4 turns. Secure with thread and trim away any excess.

7. Ty in a small piece of Chenille. Palmer 3 to 4 turns. Secure with thread and trim away any excess.

8. With the thread waiting at the halfway point. Prep a third clump of Deer Hair about the size of a pencil at the base. Even up the tips (do not stack). Measure the hair against the pattern and grasp the clump at a position so that once the clump is tied in the pushed back hair tips extend back to a point slightly less than the previous deer hair tips. Trim the base of the hair to even up the ends but leave them a little longer (approx. 3/8 of an inch). Ty in the clump allowing it to spin around the hook shank. Continue to add turns as the hair spins until it stops free spinning. Tighten with additional turns of thread. DO NOT add any turns of thread in front of the ty in point or your measurement will be off.

9. Use the pen tube to push back the Deer Hair forming a bullet head.

10. Holding the Deer Hair in place remove the pen tube and build up a cone of thread in front of the head. Use enough thread to hold the Deer Hair back without any turns of thread going over the Deer Hair.
