Since 1973 , it has been a pleasure to live in Pulaski County , Kentucky . The first opportunity I received came when I was offered a job at the Oakwood Training Facility for people with developmental disabilities as the Admissions and Placements Coordinator , and following decades of service there , I was able to rise to the highest position there as the Facility Director . This role capped off my career there following years of advocating for residents and their families and serving them as I attempted to assure their lives were better . During my years in Somerset , my love for the area grew as I became a member of many local organizations and boards to include the Somerset Woman ’ s Civic Club , annual Christmas Teas , Somerset Board of Education , the Pulaski County Public Library Board , the Somerset Junior and Women ’ s Clubs , the Business and Professional Women ’ s Club , the State Wilderness Road Girl Scout board , the Hospice of Lake Cumberland board , the United Way of South-Central Kentucky board , the Kentucky Humanities Board , the Comprehensive Care Center Board , and many others .
My greatest joy was having the opportunity to raise my three sons here in Pulaski County . All were well-educated in the Somerset City Schools and all have become very successful in their own right . They have all made me extremely proud ! My medical technologist husband , G . Paul Wilson , served eighteen years as a Somerset City Councilman after growing up here too , and my in-laws , Grant P . and Lorene C . Wilson , educators themselves , were very well-known and beloved members of this community . Living here has provided me with the opportunity to be the best that I possibly can be by serving others whether in my church ( First Baptist Church , Main Street , Somerset ), at work , or with other volunteer organizations . I have been supported greatly in all my endeavors and have been recognized by both the local Chamber of Commerce , as an educator , and more recently by the City of Somerset with the Dr . Martin Luther King , Jr . Acts of Service Award which has topped off my life of service . It has been a true honor to serve and live where I feel needed and wanted by those with whom I have come into contact . In the end , home is where the heart is , and my heart has been with this County in a variety of ways and with a variety of people for five decades .
