Erick Rodriguez Art Creation « Bust of Dumac the Dwemer King The goal of this project was to create a standards. I spent a considerable amount the Dwemer, a race of elves that has only of animation. I also focused on the hair, game-ready bust of a Dumac the king of appeared in Morrowind in 2002. I based the face of the Dumac from concept art by Matias Tapia, as well as what the Dwemer themselves appear to be based from, the Anunnaki Sumerian deities. The armor was based on the Dwemer armor seen in The Elder Scrolls IV: Skyrim, with some alterations and notable battle damage. Character design and medieval fantasy are a great passion and source of inspiration for me, and I am a longtime Elder Scrolls fan. Thus, I thought it would be a fun challenge to craft my take on what the Dwemer king might look like, as well as a great opportunity to study armor, game hair creation, and anatomy. This project took a few weeks to take form. Some aspects took constant iteration to ensure the character was up to industry 24 ART CREATION of time refining facial topology for ease exploring many avenues for sculpting hair blocks, using fiber mesh, and sculping hair strands to be modularly placed on the model. With each iteration, I learned more. By the end, I decided to use fibermesh as a base from which to make hair cards that are optimized for a game engines. Through this project, I learned how to better balance realistic textures and micro surface details with a stylized design, as well as the ability to quickly iterate and problem solve. I optimized my hard- surface workflow, while integrating organic modeling techniques to get the best result possible. I also improved my planning, research, armor, anatomy, texturing, and game hair creation skills. I’m confident that the lessons gathered from this project can be applied to many aspects of my work, and will ultimately speed up my workflow.
